The National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, has submitted that his faction of the ruling PDP “does not recognise any parallel party” formed by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, in Abuja, after the ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s second-in-command, along with some others, walked out of the party’s convention held yesterday at the Eagles Square.
Speaking with newsmen in Àbuja on Saturday, Tukur vowed to decisively deal with Atiku and his cohorts “as the situation warrants.” He maintained that the break-away faction of the PDP led by Atiku is illegal and unlawful.
“The PDP does not recognise any parallel party,” the party’s National Chairman told journalists in Abuja. Tukur accused the new group of pursuing their own personal interest and agenda.
Tukur noted that there is no crisis in the PDP and pointed that, “it is obvious that they are creating crisis where there is none to give the impression that the party is divided. This in their thinking will allow them persuade loyal members of the National Assembly to cross-carpet with them. We will resist this.”
The new PDP faction said it left to form a parallel PDP because of Tukur’s dictatorial leadership style.
