Tragedy struck in Ikot Omin area of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, on Sunday night when a young couple died after being suffocated by generator fumes.
The husband and wife died along with the wife’s teenage sister, who lived with them. The couple recently moved into their yet-to-be completed house. On the fateful day, they reportedly placed the power generating set on the corridor, and the fumes gained entry into their room, which killed them.
The couple, Bassey Effiong, 27; his wife, Glory, 21; and her younger sister, Emem, 16, were reportedly found dead on Monday at about 5pm by the husband’s uncle, a naval officer.
Meanwhile, the Cross River State Police Command spokesman, Hogan Bassey, has confirmed the report and further disclosed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Infectious Disease Hospital mortuary in Calabar.
