The Presidency has asked the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to embark on a compulsory retirement on or before March 2014. The country’s chief banker ought to have ended his first term in office by mid-2014, but with the latest development, he will be expected to vacate before then.
According to what we gathered, the Presidency is taking this step following an alleged false alarm raised by the CBN boss claiming that the sum of $50 million was not remitted by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, from the sale of crude oil, which fingered the Petroleum Minister, Dieziani Allison Madueke, in the alleged scam.
However, Sanusi later apologised for the wrong information and blamed it on his staff, who he claimed provided him with wrong figures.
His letter addressed to President Jonathan leaked and some parts of it were quoted in another letter written to Jonathan by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
