Information filtering in from Ilorin, Kwara State revealed that the new political realignment sweeping across the nation with the massive defection of a strong and viable arm of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the new PDP to the opposition, All Progressive Congress, APC, is set to rekindle the fire of hatred in the house of the late political lord of Kwara politics, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, as his two politically inclined children, Senator Bukola Saraki, the immediate past two-term governor of the state and his immediate younger sister, Senator Gbemi Rukayat Saraki Fowora, might be on the war path yet again.
Investigations revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan, in order to curtail the obvious popularity of Bukola Saraki and his ‘son’, Governor AbdulaFatah Ahmed, which they’ve now transferred to the APC, has made an overture to Senator Gbemi and three other Kwara indigenes, who the presidency feels, with a well-oiled support from the centre, could give Bukola and his new party a run for their money.
In this plot to break the stronghold of Bukola, the new strongman, are Gbemi and a former transport minister during the late Umar Yar’Adua regime, Alhaji Bio and Professor Abdulrahman Oba, a former vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin along with one woman leader in Kwara State, Mrs Adenikoro, said to be a commissioner, when the late Commodore Lawal was the governor of the state.
Our source revealed that Gbemi has been penciled down to become a minister soon, while Bio and Oba have been fully integrated into the present government with plum jobs.
Professor Oba has had his tenure renewed as the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, while Alhaji Bio is the new Chairman of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Council.
Sometime in November, a meeting was held in Abuja with Alhaji Bamanga Tukur by this team on how to retain Kwara State by all means necessary.
Mrs Adenikoro is said to be a very strong factor in Baruten Area and also a one-time strong ally of Baba Saraki in the state, she’s said to command a large followership in her area.
One of the decisions reportedly reached at the meeting was the plan to stifle the present administration of Ahmed of federal funds, which they believed would cripple Kwara State during any election. The group is of the opinion that if the allocation of the state is withheld, the Bukola/Saraki Camp will be in serious discovery and won’t have money to buy ‘big votes.’
We gathered that Bukola Saraki had pre-empted this move and immediately planted his trusted aides and associates in all the local government councils in the state.
“All the local government chairmen were picked by him, at least it is on record that there was an election to the local government council and even the Offa Council, which the PDP and APC are fighting for is now resolved as they all belong to the same party, APC now and Bukola Saraki is the leader in the state,” said a source.
