Allison Madueke Floats 'The Union' Newspaper; To Pay Reporters 250k Monthly

Aproko247 can report with authority that Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison Madueke, has started a test run of her newly floated newspaper, ‘The Union’. The voluminous paper has an all-gloss pull-outs for its Entertainment, Sports, Fashion and Style sections.

A source in the organisation confirmed to Aproko247 that the management of the publication hopes to fully start its operations from January 1, 2014, but at the moment, they are trying to test the market with a weekly publication.

The newspaper published its first edition last week Monday before the Sallah holiday, which Aproko247 was privy to see and read also. The paper covers every aspects a normal newspaper reports.

As further gathered, ‘The Union’ operates from an expansive office located in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, while the former Managing Director of Champion Newspaper, Emma Agu, is the head of the newspaper.

We were also told by our source that Reporters will be paid 250,000 monthly, while Editors will smile home at the end of the month with about N500,000.

Meanwhile, some journalists have been scrabbling to join the paper. We gathered that some have already been taken for now, while others will join by December 2013 in preparation for the 2014 full kick-off date.
