The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged residents of the state to continue to support the administration of the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi “for the many giant and generational projects and programmes being undertaken by the state government under his able leadership to uplift the living standard of our people, which is the most important essence of governance.” The party also wished the “good people Rivers State a happy and prosperous 2014.”
In a statement signed by the interim state Chairman of the party, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and made available to Aproko247, the party’s chapter in Rivers joined residents in praying “for a better 2014 for Rivers State.”
“We acknowledge that while Rivers State (like other states) is facing some challenges, there are peculiar challenges that have needlessly been imposed on our dear state by the powers that be. We enjoin our people not to despair and remain resolute in support of our dear governor to ensure that the interests of Rivers State are protected at all times,” the statement said.
It further stated that, “conscious of the nexus between extreme poverty and radicalism, kidnapping and other criminality, the APC in Rivers State is embarking on a new and critical mission to restore hope and order, generate jobs and generally enhance the living standard of our people.
“This is in realisation that solutions to our socio-economic problems do not lie with force of arms, political propaganda and lawlessness which are the hallmarks of the PDP in Rivers State. Achieving general contentment for the populace can only come through careful study, hard work, adherence to the rule of law and internal party democracy which are the hallowed principles of APC.”
“Our conviction is that the many giant strides of the government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in education, health, roads/bridges, power, human capital development amongst others, are clear testimony of good leadership, good governance and accountability (i.e. prudent utilization of the state resources). A clear evidence of the frugality and accountability of the government of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is the achievement of a B+ rating by Fitch.
“Fitch is a global rating agency dedicated to providing value beyond the rating of independent and prospective credit opinions, research and data. It therefore behoves on the good people of our dear state to support and stand by the governor even as he fearlessly confronts impunity and demands equity, justice and fair play for Rivers State and our people.
“The only regret of Rivers people is that they wasted over 2 million votes for PDP for the centre during the 2011 general elections and have so far got nothing in return but instead are being subjected to group persecution and discrimination by the Federal Government.
“Even few projects started by the Federal Government in Rivers State before 2011, have all been abandoned. Thank God that Rivers people are wiser now and have fully embraced the APC which will surely deliver the dividend of democracy for Rivers people if voted into power in 2015.
“While we look forward to a blissful year ahead, the APC, as a political party led by seasoned and credible politicians, will always ensure that our actions and inactions shall be guided by genuine fear of God a commitment to sincerity, humility, strict adherence to the rule of law and the practice of internal party democracy,” said the party.
