Some hours ago, popular Nigerian comedian, posted a rape joke on his Facebook wall. The jab was later found very offensive by some Nigerians, as well as other Africans, stating that the humour merchant was not being sensitive to the dastardly act. He was also accused of encouraging rape in the society.
However, the remorseful comedian and Glo ambassador has openly apologised for his joke on rape. Basketmouth, whose real name is Bright Okpocha, tendered his apology on twitter and stated that he was misunderstood.
“Ok guys,I’m sorry about the rape joke,” Basketmouth wrote on twitter, promising that, “I won’t crack such jokes again.” He added that, “I’ll just stick to jokes about men being able to marry under-aged girls in Nigeria.”
Stating further, he stressed that, “I have a daughter, wife, sisters and a mother I will give my life to protect. Anything done for a woman is less than they deserve for their roles in our lives.
“I would never in a thousand lifetime encourage rape, the joke was clearly misunderstood and have been found offensive.
“To all the women that make our lives colourful, the ones we literally owe our lives to, I apologise for the joke. It wasn’t meant that way by a long shot. God bless you all.”
