Convoy of the governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, was reportedly involved in a fatal road accident on Monday. The road mishap took place while the governor was on his way to the burial of late Emir of Shani, Alhaji Mohammed Mailafiya, who died last week in India.
Vanguard reported that a close associate to Shettima, who was in the affected vehicle, died in the crash, while the driver sustained injuries.
One of the Jeeps on the governor’s convoy reportedly lost one of its tyres and rammed into a tree.
‘Sources said that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle/Jeep, brown in colour, lost control just some few metres to the emir’s palace before ramming into a tree opposite the Shani General Hospital which is now under renovation,’ said the paper.
The driver was later rushed to a hospital in Biu Local Government area for treatment.
