“There will be nothing like automatic tickets for anyone; incumbents and challengers seeking the PDP ticket must go through the normal process to secure it,” the Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Zone 3 of Kaduna State, Joseph Gumbari, has declared.
Recently, there have been reports that some members of the PDP have insisted that they would not defect to the opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, only if they are assured of an automatic ticket in 2015.
But speaking in Jos, Plateau State on Tuesday, Gambari told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that despite the massive exodus of PDP members to APC, the ruling party will not grant automatic tickets to its incumbent National Assembly, NASS, members in 2015.
“No one can blackmail the PDP into making such concessions; we shall give the party’s tickets to only those who deserve it. Those who have performed and are still popular should have nothing to fear.
“There are many lawmakers today that cannot visit their constituencies for fear that they could be attacked by their constituents. Such people have abandoned the people and had offered nothing to better their lots. You cannot impose such people on the electorate because that will endanger our chances,” Gambari, a former federal lawmaker, explained.
Gambari also revealed that, “APC members in their thousands, led by Huseini Dembo, on Friday defected to the PDP; so while APC is receiving defecting PDP members in other. states, we are equally receiving top APC members defecting to our fold in Kaduna State.”
