The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Dr Ade Abolurin, in his briefing at the Corps Headquarters, tasked the personnel to abide by the slogan of humility and integrity by which the Corps is known for in carrying out their daily functions.
He made this known while briefing a cross section of the officers from the headquarters and FCT Command on the pride of a dutiful and committed staff.
According to him, the Corps is noted for its zero tolerance to corruption and other social vices that have bedevilled the society, therefore as a Corps built on the principle of integrity the only way to win the confidence of the populace is to maintain the virtue.
He reiterated that the confidence of the people in the Corps must not be jeopardized as the populace, through the change of attitude and behavioural patterns of the personnel, must be reassured and convinced that the Corps is civil in its orientation and approachable in times of distress.
He also tasks the desk officers to re-strategize their mode of operation in terms of deployment of personnel to critical areas for effective policing of infrastructure against vandalism.
However, in his warning to the personnel, he cautions them to be careful of emergency friends that come around their duty post, most especially those deployed to protect the critical infrastructure and national assets, so that they don’t under-study them and turn around to perpetrate their evil act.
Therefore, do not compromise your stand; don’t involve yourself in any act capable of denting your image and the credibility of the Corps for a good name is better than riches.
The Corps will not condone any act of sabotage and criminality, instead be diligent in your ways in discharging your assigned responsibilities as the Corps as well as the Government is expecting you to perform above board, says Abolurin.
He charges personnel to partner, collaborate and synergize with other security agencies and stakeholders in carrying out the Corps mandate without clashes and rivalry.
He also called on the stakeholders and the populace to partner with the Corps as well by availing them with all necessary information that could help in effective policing of the environment and infrastructure therein.
Vandalism, illegal bunkering and oil theft is a crime therefore, all citizens must assist the Corps in fighting the war against those illicit acts in order to rid the society of all bad elements and saboteurs so as to curb the level of crime and criminality being perpetrated daily, says Abolurin.
