The Senate Committee on Police Affairs, on Tuesday, visited the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, over the latest crisis that occurred in the state on Sunday, in which a member of the Senate, Magnus Abe, was allegedly shot by the police.
Speaking with journalists at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Committee Chairman, Paulinus Uwagwu, said that they were in the state on a fact finding mission over the alleged disruption of Save Rivers Movement Rally in Port Harcourt by the police.
Uwagwu said the Committee will submit its findings to the Senate when they resume plenary.
The Senate also visited the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, venue of the proposed Save Rivers Rally, where the incident occurred. They later visited Government House Port Harcourt.
During their visit to Mbu, the police chief informed the Senate that he was acting on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar.
