President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday, confirmed the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, after a long battle to get him (Tukur) out of office.
Tukur tendered his resignation letter to the President, who in turn handed it over to the National Secretary of the party, Wale Oladipo, at the ongoing National Executive Committee, NEC, taking place in Abuja.
Jonathan absolved Tukur from any offence and promised him a better government job by his administration.
“He (Tukur) is not guilty of any offence and I am going to give him an assignment that is tougher than PDP chairman(ship),” Jonathan disclosed.
The President also revealed that the party will hold another NEC meeting next week Monday to announce a new PDP National Chairman.
The governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, moved the motion to accept Tukur’s resignation, which was seconded by Abdul Ningi, the Deputy Senate Leader. The motion was accepted by the NEC.
