Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Azubuike Ihejirika, has described calls by the Northern Elders for his prosecution at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in Hague as ‘ill conceived’. He divulged further that the calls were made out of ignorance.
The military officer made this known in Abuja on Sunday at the Presidential Villa Chapel. He noted that he and the other recently sacked service chiefs offered huge sacrifices to the nation. Ihejirika further stated that they (service chiefs) did their best to make the country safe, especially the northern region of Nigeria.
According to him, if really those calling for his prosecutions are elders, they should be thankful for the services rendered to Nigeria by the senior military personnel.
“There is no senatorial zone in this country that has not lost a personnel of the armed forces which makes it unfortunate that the same elders, if they are really elders, have not cared to send a single condolence message to the military but to make such a call,” Ihejirika lamented.
“With the equipment and training that were carried out in recent days, there will be little or no hiding place for the insurgents,” he assured Nigerians.
