Justice Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has stopped the House of Representatives from changing its leadership.
This followed a suit filed by the headship of the beleaguered Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which approached the court to block the move by the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In his judgement on Monday, Justice Ademola ordered a halt to the move pending the determination of the suit. He ruled that the House should maintain the status quo until further notice.
Few weeks ago, 37 lawmakers in the green chamber defected from the PDP to the APC, which gave the latter a majority status in the House.
