According to reports, Adepoju, who was retired from the church about 10 years ago, left his home in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he established his church, to visit Oguntoye. It was learnt that the deceased welcomed his friend into his house, not knowing that he had a knife in his suit.

The suspect was said to have brought out his knife and stabbed his colleague in the head, chest and stomach. He accused his friend of stealing his glory and that of his children. Oguntoye died thereafter.
