Laptop Thief Butchered By Mob In Calabar

Luck ran out of an alleged laptop thief in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, on Tuesday, when some angry mob descended on him and inflicted some deep machete cuts on some parts of his body. The suspect, identified as Ime, was alleged to have used a master key to burgle into one of the apartments occupied by some students of the University of Calabar while they were fast asleep.

It was learnt that on Monday morning, at about 1am, Ime and an accomplice allegedly entered into the room and made away with a laptop and some mobile phones. One of the students in the room, who noticed a strange movement, reportedly raised an alarm, which attracted others. The alleged thieves, on sensing danger, took to their heels.

They were reportedly pursued by the students that night and one of them caught. The apprehended thief disclosed the identity of Ime, who escaped that night, to the students.

On Tuesday morning, Ime was caught around Mayne Avenue by Abasi Obori in Calabar and he received the beating of his life. The angry mob reportedly used sticks, fists and machete on the suspect.

Some passers-by prevented the mob from lynching the suspect.
