The Ondo State House of Assembly has pardoned a female lawmaker, Fola Olasehinde-Vincent, suspended in 2013 for allegedly being in possession of some fetish substances.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Dare Emiola, revealed that the Olasehinde-Vincent was recalled to the Assembly on December 31, 2013.
“Concerning our member who was suspended, she has been pardoned. That is why you see her in our midst today (Thursday). We are together. We are one. So, she is back, and today, her recall will be ratified at the hallow chamber,” Emiola disclosed.
Also addressing journalists on Thursday, Olasehinde-Vincent expressed her joy that truth has finally prevailed. She attributed her ordeal to some detractors who conspired to bring her down.
Olasehinde-Vincent maintained that the story was trumped-up to rubbish her name.
“You will recall that about seven months ago, precisely June 18, 2013 a letter of suspension written by the leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly was handed to me.
“In the letter, my suspension was hinged on a trumped-up story that fetish objects were found in my apartment. An apartment I vacated and handed over the keys long before the story was well-dressed to paint me black in the eyes of the people of my constituency and the entire global audience.
“As a law-abiding citizen, lawyer and representative of the good people of Ose constituency, I approached the court to seek redress. I went to court because I have always believed in the potency of the law of the land to untie the orchestrated politics of mudslinging that was targeted at my person.
“While the court process continued, the leadership and members of the Ondo State House of Assembly absolved me of the wicked story, lifted the suspension and reinstated me,” Olasehinde-Vincent narrated.
