Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, has maintained that Nigerians living abroad will not vote in 2015 when the next general elections hold in the country.
The INEC boss stated this at a three-day National Stakeholders Forum on Electoral Reform held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Jega, represented by INEC Commissioner, Election Party Monitoring, Hajiya Aminu, Zakari, disclosed that until the Electoral Act is amended and passed into law, Nigerians in the diaspora will not be able to vote in elections held in the country.
However, Jega stated that it was necessary to include them in the choice of electing their representatives at all levels of governance. He added that not allowing eligible Nigerians living abroad to vote would mean infringing on their fundamental rights.
