Justice Bolaji Yussuf of the Federal High Court 3, Ring road, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, declared theatre arts guru, Comrade Victor Ashaolu, as the duly elected President of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, ANTP.
The ruling finally ended the four-year leadership tussle between Ashaolu and Dele Odule, a veteran actor.
Ashaolu had gone to the court to seek its power to operate as the authentic President of the association. This followed the controversies that trailed the February 10, 2010 election, which was held at the Ace Hall, Yemetu, Ibadan.
On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 another election took place in Ilorin, Kwara State, which produced Ashaolu as President, but the poll was boycotted by Odule, who opposed the emergence of Ashaolu as ANTP President at the Ilorin election.
According to Ashaolu, delegates from the seven ANTP operating states; Ekiti, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo were duly represented at the September 22 election.
Since 2010, after his tenure expired, Prince Jide Kosoko has been leading the group following a ‘status quo’ order given by the court.
