A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a former Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, Okechikwu Chukwulozie, to 15 years imprisonment. The convict is to spend his jail term in Kuje Prisons in Abuja.
Chukwulozie was jailed by the court over a N10.4 million fraud he was found guilty of.
A statement signed on Thursday by the Head of Media and Events of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Folu Olamiti, stated that the convict was sentenced after he was found guilty of the five count charges brought against him by the Commission.
The ICPC accused Chukwulozie of using private interest to furnish his official residence and demanding for a percentage in a contract he awarded. The Commission further stated the convict was in 2007, with his wife, Angela, and a former Deputy Commissioner in charge of Finance and Administration, Adedolapo Ogungbe, charged to court over N10.4 million fraud.
The judge, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi, convicted and sentenced Chukwulozie to three years on each of the five counts, without an option of fine and it will run concurrently.
Oniyangi held that the ICPC had proved all the ingredients of Section 19 of the ICPC Act against him.
