The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has commended the Senate for confirming the appointments of the new service chiefs on Thursday.
The ruling party, in a press statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Thursday, described the move as a triumph of nationalism.
PDP hailed the legislators for “going ahead to thoroughly screen and clear the new Service Chiefs in spite of the “wicked plot by the APC to stall the process.”
Olisa stated further that, “in completely ignoring the APC, the lawmakers have shown that they are indeed statesmen who are alive to their constitutional responsibilities for which they were elected by Nigerians.”
He added that the lawmakers have “rekindled the hope of Nigerians in the National Assembly as the last defence for democracy” adding that it is “highly impressed by the roles the Senate and its leadership have been playing to ensure the stability of the nation.”
“The ruling assured that it will continue to be committed to national unity, peace, security and welfare of all Nigerians at all times and urged Nigerians to continue to give support to its programmes and government at all levels,” the party said in the statement.
The APC had directed its lawmakers to block all Executive Bills as well as the screening.
