The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has disclosed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will return to its fold when he fails to win at the polls flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The former number two citizen of the country left the ruling party on Sunday to join the opposition party.
Prior to the 2007 general elections, Atiku left the PDP to join the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, where he grabbed the Presidential ticket. He later went back to the PDP in 2009 and was gladly received by the party.
Speaking at a forum in Abuja on Tuesday, the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, stated that Atiku would still comeback to the party. He noted that when such happens, the PDP will gladly welcome him.
“I can tell you that we (PDP) are waiting for Atiku to go on this voyage and come back. He has done it before; this is not the first time. We will welcome him back when he returns because APC cannot win election, they are not firmly rooted,” Secondus said at the opening ceremony of a consultative workshop held for Women in the Media, organised by the National Woman leader of the PDP, Kema Chikwe. The occasion took place at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
The PDP top shot further boasted that, “the good thing is that the PDP is so consistent and constant that when they leave, they go on a voyage and they come back and we receive them,” adding that, “our party is the strongest, others are struggling. APC is just starting registration, something we did 13 years ago. It just started and cannot meet us. What APC is doing is party gymnastic.”
