A moment ago, we broke the story of President Jonathan’s visit to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital for an undisclosed mission. The President arrived the city from Kano, where he visited on Saturday morning.
A source in the know of the visit, informed Aproko247 that at least one person was feared dead during a stampede at the Ibadan airport.
We were also reliably told by the source that numerous supporters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, stormed the airport to welcome the President. However, he could spend much time with them because he was quickly moved into a waiting chopper at the airport.
“The President came down from a presidential jet and immediately entered a waiting chopper,” said our source, adding that, “Jonathan entered the chopper in company of Jumoke Akinjide, who stormed the (Ibadan) airport with many PDP supporters.”
The President was clad in a white agbada, a black cap and shoes to match.
Our source added that the Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, was, however, on hand to welcome the President at the airport.
As at the time of publishing this report, spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, could not be reached by this magazine to confirm the death of a supporter reportedly killed in the stampede. The victim was said to have fainted, but died before any help could be rendered.
Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued at the airport between supporters of the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, who stormed the Ibadan airport on Saturday.
We were informed that the two party faithfuls exchanged abusive words to each other.
