Prominent Yoruba monarch, Samuel Odulana Odugade, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has expressed his anger for being neglected by President Goodluck Jonathan when he visited Oyo State last weekend. Ibadan is the capital of Oyo State.
The President paid a courtesy visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III on Saturday, but failed to see the Ibadan monarch at his palace. Jonathan landed in the Ibadan airport via a presidential jet and entered a waiting chopper to visit the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, before visiting Oba Adeyemi III in Oyo.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the secretary of the Olubadan-in-council, Kamoru Liasu, the traditional ruler described the President’s action as an affront and a ridicule of the Ibadan chieftaincy institution.
Oba Odugade also accused Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State of being part of the plan to disregard him as the current Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs. Ajimobi accompanied Jonathan to the Oyo monarch’s palace.
The 99-year-old Ibadan monarch advised the President and the state governor not to commit an act capable of distorting the peace of the state and bringing the Ibadan chieftaincy institution into disrepute.
