Recently ousted Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has described those working with President Goodluck Jonathan as sycophants, who are not telling him the true state of corruption in the country, but rather tell him otherwise.
In series of tweets posted on his twitter timeline on Sunday, the suspended Nigeria’s chief banker also described the President as a nice person, but who is surrounded by fraudulent people.
“When you sit with President Jonathan, he appears a nice simple person who is trying his best to do his best,” Sanusi said, adding that but “his (Jonathan) greatest failing obviously is that he is surrounded by people who are extremely incompetent, who are extremely fraudulent whom he trusts.”
Sanusi further said that, “many of the people advising Jonathan are sycophants who do not speak frankly about the extent of corruption in government.”
Commenting on the alleged fraud in the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, the Kano Prince said, “if I am sacrificed in whatever way, my freedom or my life…… If it does lead to better accountability it will be well worth it.
“I think everybody has known that NNPC is rotten. I don’t think it has ever been as bad as this.
“The NNPC has become notorious as one of the most opaque oil companies in the world, but the extent of the graft may have reached an historic.”
He admitted that his outburst on the missing $20 million crude oil money may have resulted into his removal as CBN boss by the President last week. “The list of my enemies may have been built up over years, but the NNPC affair appeared to be the Final-Straw,” said Sanusi.
Last week Thursday, President Jonathan suspended Sanusi from office, few months before the expiration of his first 5-year-tenure.
