The Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, on Monday, finally signed the anti-gay bill into law. The bill was appended to by the Ugandan leader despite warnings from President of the United States of America, USA, Barack Obama, that such law would ‘complicate our valued relationship’ and cause a ‘step backward’ for all Ugandans.
The latest move would prohibit anyone in Uganda from practising homosexuality.
The anti-gay bill stipulates 14 years imprisonment for first-time offenders and life imprisonment for a repeat.
The bill initially stipulated death sentence for offender, but President Meseveni delayed the signing of the bill into law to enable some Ugandan scientists confirm if homosexuality was caused by genetics or not.
However, the outcome of the scientists revealed that gays were made and not born. They explained that homosexuality is an act learnt and not inherited.
The Ugandan Parliament passed the bill in December 2013.
