Fifty-one persons have been confirmed dead by officials of the Nigerian Red Cross, while about 60 people were said to have suffered various forms of injuries in Saturday’s twin blasts in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Yesterday evening, two explosions were heard near a cinema in Maiduguri, but casualty figures were not yet known then.
On Sunday, however, men of the Nigerian Red Cross were spotted at the scene of the unfortunate incident trying to recover the remains of victims of the blasts trapped in destroyed houses. Also with them were some health workers, humanitarian organizations and youth vigilantes.
Among those killed on Saturday were children, women, traders and football fans watching soccer matches from the Baclays Premier League.
