Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has approved the immediate employment of 5000 teachers into public secondary schools in the state. The governor disclosed this last Thursday during a courtesy visit to his office in Uyo by the National President of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Michael Alogbe Olukoya.
Akpabio emphasised that this gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to providing free and compulsory education programme in Akwa Ibom.
The governor expressed his appreciation to Olukoya for his leadership style in NUT. He also thanked the union for choosing to hold their retreat later in the year in Akwa Ibom State. Akpabio promised to support the programme. The governor further pledged his continued support for education in the state.
In his remarks, Olukoya expressed his appreciation to the governor for the open arms extended to NUT and its leadership. The union president explained that they were in Akwa Ibom for a two-day executive meeting and to inform the governor of NUT’s National Delegates’ Conference taking place in the state in July.
Olukoya revealed that about 3000 teachers would gather for the conference. The NUT boss also described Akpabio as a lover of education and urged him to continue to support education and teachers.
