Bye-election held on Saturday in the Ilaje Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which conducted the poll yesterday.
The Returning Officer of the Commission in charge of the election, Professor Babatunde Adeyemi of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, disclosed that the results already collated indicated that there was no clear winner in the poll.
Prof Adeyemi made this known at the collation centre in Igbokoda township. His announcement came as shock to some of the election observers.
The scholar has therefore called for a re-run of the election.
Saturday’s bye-election became necessary following the demise of Raphael Nomiye in 2013. Late Nomiye was elected into the House of Representatives under the platform of the Labour Party.
