No fewer than five persons have died in a boat mishap in Edati local government area of Niger State. The incident occurred on Saturday along the Egah river in the state. Four men and a woman, who were passengers on the boat, lost their lives in the accident.
The victims, according to reports, were not wearing life jacket vests as required by the Niger State law for water transportation in the state. There were six people in the boat, including the driver, who survived the mishap because he could swim.
As at the time the incident happened, there were no local fishermen around to save the drowning passengers.
The boat capsized after hitting a rock underneath the water. The victims were leaving Gbamachi to Sofanla in same local government area before the unfortunate incident occurred.
