The use of commercial motorcycles popular called ‘achaba’ in the northern part of Nigeria, is to be prohibited in some areas in Kaduna State. The State House of Assembly recently passed a bill to that effect and proscribed jail term or fine or both for violators when the bill is signed into law.
The bill seeks to amend the Commercial Motorcycle Law No. 4 of 1999 and the Road Traffic Law Cap 135 of Kaduna State 1991, providing a fine not more than N10, 000 or three months imprisonment or both, on conviction; and a fine of N20,000 or six months imprisonment or both for second offenders.
