A bridge in Borno State, which provides an alternative link to the Sambisa forest, has been blown up by gunmen believed to be members of Boko Haram, who have carried out several bombings in the north.
The said bridge is also linking Borno and Adamawa States, both under emergency rule.
The gunmen attacked Limankara village in Borno on Saturday, destroying the bridge afterwards.They were also said to have kidnapped the family of a Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area before fleeing into the forest.
It was also learnt that the suspected Boko Haram members used explosives to blow up the bridge. The gunmen reportedly engaged men of the Nigerian Army for hours.
