INEC Rules Out Late Arrival Of Materials In 2015

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured Nigerians that there would not be late arrival of election materials in the 2015 general polls.

This assurance was given in Gusau, Zamfara, by Jubrin Zarewa, the Resident Electoral Commissioner,  REC, in the state on Friday during a press conference. The top INEC official disclosed further that all election materials would be deployed to all states of the federation in good time for the 2015 elections.

He added that materials to be used the polls would be kept in the Central Bank of Nigeria in the states, also stating that adequate arrangements were being made by the commission throughout the country to ensure that all lapses recorded during 2011 general elections were addressed.

Zarewa noted that, “it is expected that the registration of all eligible voters would commence in phases in 10 selected states, including Zamfara.”

He also explained that while the temporary voter card would be withdrawn, all eligible voters would be given permanent voter cards, based on personal appearance. Stakeholders’ committees have been set up by the Commission in all the states to create awareness among the public over the voter registration, the INEC senior official said.

He urged all eligible voters to avail themselves at their respective wards for the exercise which would be carried out between May 28 and June 1, 2014.
