Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau, has been directed by the Senate to appear before it on Thursday, May 15, 2015. The resolution summoning the Minister and others was passed by the lawmakers on Wednesday.
Minister of Police Affairs, Chief of Defence Staff, National Security Adviser, the Service Chiefs, including the Inspector General of Police, were also ordered to appear tomorrow before the Senate.
They were asked to present themselves to the legislators in connection with President Goodluck Jonathan’s request for an extension of the state of emergency on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, which was pronounced in May 2013. They are to brief the lawmakers on the situation of things in three states.
Thursday’s meeting, as our correspondent gathered, will be held behind closed doors.
The session was presided over on Wednesday by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and stressed that they would extensively discuss the matter tomorrow because it bothers on the security of a part of this country.
