President Goodluck Jonathan has stressed that he won’t give in to the demands of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau. The wanted terrorist, in a video released this week, told the Nigerian government to handover his members held in custody by security forces in the country in exchange for the over 200 abducted girls in his (Shekau) care.
This latest information is contrary to what Jonathan’s aides earlier told Nigerians that the government was ready to negotiate with the insurgents in order to secure the freedom of the schoolgirls in the den of their abductors.
On Wednesday, British Africa Minister, Mark Simmonds, disclosed after a meeting with Jonathan that the Nigerian government was not planning to dialogue with the terrorists on the matter as requested by them.
“He made it very clear that there will be no negotiation with Boko Haram that involves a swap of abducted schoolgirls for prisoners,” Simmonds said on Wednesday.
The April 15 abduction has sparked global condemnation, with asking for the release of the girls.
