Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has asked the Federal Government and the National Assembly to put an end to emergency rule imposed on three states in the northern part of Nigeria.
ACF, a pan-northern socio-political organisation, said the state of emergency imposed on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe by the FG in May 2013, should not be extended as requested by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The group noted that the emergency rule is absolutely unnecessary and therefore requested the National Assembly not to consent to the Presidency’s request to extend it in the three states.
However, the House of Representatives, on Thursday, approved the extension of emergency rule after a closed door meeting with security chiefs. The Senate, on its part, is yet to give a nod to the request. The red chamber of NASS is expected to deliberate on this on Tuesday, when the Senate President, David Mark, would have returned to the country from China.
