All Nigerian Stations To Show FIFA World Cup Matches

The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, BON, has said that all stations under the organisation are free to show the FIFA World Cup matches without any restriction. Executive Secretary of BON, Olusegun Olaleye, told NAN that all Nigerian television stations wishing to air the 64 matches are free to do so.

He, however, noted that Optima Sports Management International, OSMI, has the transmission marketing right for the competition in the Nigerian territory.

According to him, “there is nothing like ‘this is a government station’ or this is the particular station selected for the broadcast of the World Cup.

“Every station has the right. While Optima Sports Management International (OSMI) has the transmission marketing right for the competition in the Nigerian territory, the company has also given BON the right to transmit the World Cup.

“There is no exclusivity of right. Every station is entitled to transmitting the football World Cup from any part of the country.”

The FIFA World Cup starts on June 12 and wraps up on July 13 in Brazil. Thirty-two countries will be participating in the tournament, including Nigeria and four other African countries. The last edition was hosted in Africa for the first time by South Africa, which was won by Spain.
