Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC, Sani Malumfashi, has disclosed that the Commission has concluded plans to successfully hold local government elections in the state on Saturday. Our reporter gathered that election materials are already in place for tomorrow’s polls in the state.
Also, the Kano Police Command Commissioner, Aderenle Shinaba, told newsmen on Friday at a press briefing that his men are set for Saturday and will ensure a smooth exercise.
He also banned hawking and trading during the local council polls tomorrow.
“We don’t want to see any form of selling or hawking during the election period tomorrow. Police and other security agents will take positions early before the commencement of the election,” Shinaba told journalists at the media briefing in Kano on Friday.
The police chief urged “residents (of the state) to co-operate with us. We shall remain non-partisan as we have assured all parties, but we will not allow anybody to violate electoral rules and regulations.”
He promised to “ensure free and fair election”, while urging politicians in the state to play the game by the rules.
