PDP Suggests Abdication Of Oba Of Lagos

Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the reported public endorsement of Akinwunmi Ambode as the befitting next governor of the state by Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, as “undemocratic”.

The party, in a statement signed on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, said the monarch’s action is an “attempt to support the wish of [Bola Ahmed] Tinubu,” noting that, “in a very undemocratic manner, the Oba went further to berate other aspirants to the office, counseling them to concede to Akin Ambode.”

“Now that Oba Akiolu has openly manifested his partisanship and favouritism for a party and aspirant, we have no choice but to caution the Oba.

“The Oba’s action is regrettable and very unbecoming of a ruler expected to be a father for all. His decision to openly descend into the murky waters of partisan politics has unequivocally confirmed him as not fit and proper to be a ruler, talk less of Oba of Lagos.

“He must therefore apologise to Lagosians and publicly retract the endorsement of Akin Ambode within seven days,” the party demanded.
