Chibok Girls: Protesters March To Presidential Villa Today

A mass protest has been planned for Thursday, May 22, 2014 to press for the release of the abducted schoolgirls by Boko Haram sect on April 15, 2014. The mostly teenage girls were kidnapped in their school by the terrorist group and are believed to be kept in Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

Organisers of the Thursday protest plan to march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by the Coordinator of the protest, Hadiza Bala Usman, the mass demonstration is to put pressure on the government to rescue of over 200 schoolgirls presently in the custody of Islamic sect.

“The #BringBackOurGirls Team in Nigeria will embark on
a protest march to the Presidential Villa, in Aso Rock.
This is in continuation of our citizens’ engagement over
the need for the authorities concerned to take the lead
in rescuing our over 200 schoolgirls still in custody of
Boko Haram,” Usman said in the statement.

The statement further urged “those intending to participate in the protest are to convene by 2:30pm at the usual venue of the #BringBackOurGirls village square meetings, at Unity Fountain. It is adjacent to theTranscorp Hilton Hotel, Maitama, from where the march will commence at 3:00 pm on Thursday.”

At a security summit held in France last week, President Goodluck Jonathan vowed to ensure that the girls are rescued.
