A court in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, has sentenced the deposed former President of the country, Hosni Mubarak. The former Egyptian leader was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison. He was found guilty of embezzling millions in public funds for lavish renovations to family properties.
His two sons were also sentenced by the same court on the same charges. They were told by the court to spend four years in behind bars.
The court also directed Mubarak and his sons to repay about 125 million Egyptian pounds of funds they were accused of stealing. They were also ordered to pay a fine of 21.197 million Egyptian pounds.
An uprising by citizens of Egypt in 2011 forced Mubarak’s removal from office. Several people were killed in the revolution.
