The Presidency has reacted to a media report that Nigerian leader, Goodluck Jonathan was booed in South Africa on Saturday during the inauguration of President Jacob Zuma for a second term at the Union Buildings, Pretoria.
Jonathan, speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, on Saturday night in Abuja, berated the report, describing it as untrue. He said the report was just to discredit the administration of Jonathan.
It was earlier reported that Jonathan was booed by angry residents of the former Apartheid country just when the Nigerian President appeared. It was said he was greeted with shouts of ‘bring back our girls’.
But Abati noted that Jonathan was appreciated by South Africans when he arrived at the venue of the ceremony. He stressed that South Africans realised that the war against terrorism is global and not peculiar to Nigeria. The President’s spokesman added that both Nigeria and South Africa share strong bilateral relations in many areas.
