There are strong indications that the speculated anointed man to take over the baton of leadership of Lagos State from Babatunde Raji Fashola as the next governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, may not smell the position at the end of the day despite getting the backing of Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.
This is because the former Accountant-General of Lagos State is being faced with a controversy regarding his state of origin.
It is being alleged in some quarters that Ambode is from Ondo State, and not from Epe, Lagos, as he claimed.
With this, some are saying that the future of Lagos cannot be entrusted in the hands of someone who is not proud of his identity, especially where he comes from. Though the Nigerian Constitution did not say someone who is not from a state cannot vie for elective post in the state, especially as governor, but in practice, this has become an issue unlike in civilised countries like America and Britain.
An old picture of Ambode surfaced a moment ago, which showed an inscription that he is from Ondo State. The picture, according to what Aproko247 gathered, was taken many years ago when Ambode was a student at the University of Lagos.
As at the time, this magazine could not get the official reaction of Ambode or his camp on this matter.
