No fewer than nine persons were slain on Sunday by some gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram. The terrorists attacked a church in Gwoza, barely three days after the group slaughtered the Enir of Gwoza, Idris Titman, while on his way to the burial of the Emir of Gombe alongside two other Emirs.
It was gathered that the insurgents opened fire on some Christians worshipping at the EYN Church (Church of Brethren, Nigeria) at about 9:30am while the service was still ongoing.
One of the fleeing members of the church told journalists on Monday in Maiduguri, the state capital, that the gunmen stormed their church on motorcycles. It was also learnt that many were injured in the attack while trying to run to safety.
However, some residents of the village summoned the courage to pursue the gunmen and killed four of the assailants, arresting three others in the process.
