President Goodluck Jonathan has recommended Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke for a job at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC. The Nigerian leader wants his Minister to become the next Secretary-General of the organisation.
The current Secretary-General of OPEC is Abdullah al-Badri and he is expected vacate the position in December 2014.
However, Alison-Madueke will have stiff opposition from Iraqi, Saudi Arabian and Iranian candidates, who are also jostling for the same post.
OPEC will meet on Wednesday.
