Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ekiti State, Halilu Pai, has disclosed that result of Saturday’s gubernatorial poll will not be announced in Abuja, but in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Pia was reacting to a rumour being speculated in some quarters that the result of governorship election in Ekiti State will be announced in Abuja, which has raised doubts on the credibility of INEC. “The rumour that election result would be announced in Abuja is not true,” he assured.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, the senior INEC official explained that the results of votes cast would be collated at ward and local government levels by INEC officials, which would be sent to Ado-Ekiti, where the final result would be made public.
Pia further explained that only 476,870 out of the 732,165 registered voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, which he said represents 65 per cent. However, he stressed that any voter without the PVC would be accredited to vote.
