Following reports that former Nigerian international, Stephen Keshi has resigned his appointment as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has declared that he is free to go.
Speaking with Brila FM on Tuesday, Vice President of NFF, Mike Umeh, told the station that the federation will not stand in Keshi’s way, if he decides to leave the team, noting that he is free to quit the job for a “greener pasture.”
Umeh said Keshi, who captained Nigeria to her first World Cup appearance in USA ’94, is old enough to know what is good for him.
According to Umeh, “we cannot stop Keshi from moving if he wants to, he’s a grown man and knows what is good for him. If he so desires a greener pasture, then we can’t stop him, it is up to him to decide.”
News went viral on Monday night, after Nigeria lost to France at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil, that Keshi had resigned. A purported tweet by the former Head Coach of Mali and Togo disclosed that he was moving on.
The said tweet reads, “friends, it has been a good run and I have enjoyed every moment. It’s been an honour coaching the Super Eagles. It is however time to bow out.”
Keshi guided Nigeria to her Nations Cup victory in South Africa in 2013.
