A one-million naira take-off grant has been approved by the Federal Government for the establishment of Oil & Gas Polytechnic in Bonny, Rivers State.
The grant is to enable the new specialised institution starts academic activities and put other things in place in the school.
Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, who made the announcement on Tuesday, stated that the decision to set up the school was a practical expression of the President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment to improving access to tertiary education in Nigeria.
He further disclosed that the establishment of the Oil and Gas Polytechnic was also to create employment and to empower youths with the necessary skills to contribute to national development.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan has also approved the appointment of Professor Elijah Tamuno Iyagba as Rector of the new polytechnic, while Willabo Gilbert was made the school’s Registrar. Akpomeyoma Gabriel and Ata John Ajala will serve the institution as Bursar and Librarian respectively.
