Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and current Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to President Goodluck Jonathan for the first time since his ascension to the exalted Kano throne.
The monarch was at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja, for the breaking of Ramadan fast with the President.
Sanusi was part of the northern traditional rulers that made the trip to Abuja to meet with Jonathan. The visit was led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, who many believed brokered peace between Jonathan and Sanusi, after both fell out when the former CBN boss claimed some money was missing from crude oil sale. Sanusi was later removed from office as CBN Governor in February 2014 by the President. Many also believed Jonathan blocked Sanusi from becoming the Emir of Kano.
At the meeting on Wednesday, Sanusi led others in a special prayer for peace for the nation and the President later took turn to shake hands with the Emirs, including Sanusi.
Speaking on behalf of others, the Sultan of Sokoto condemned the double explosions that occurred in Kaduna on Wednesday afternoon. He described the acts as wicked.
President Jonathan thanked the traditional rulers for the visit and promised to always seek their advice on matters affecting the country.
