Additional 3,379 voting points have been created in Osun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the gubernatorial election holding in the state on August 9, 2014.
This was disclosed on Friday at a press briefing in Oshogbo by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Olusegun Agbaje, who said the action was to ensure prompt accreditation of voters during the next Saturday’s polls.
With the addition, the number of polling units in Osun State is now 6389.
“The commission has created 3,379 voting points to accelerate the process of accreditation and voting,” Agbaje.
He also warned members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and officials of the Commission against being used by politicians to discredit the election. He stressed that anyone caught will be handed over to the security operatives for prosecution.
“Any corps member or other categories of INEC staff caught in any unlawful act will be disowned and be handed over to the police,” Agbaje warned.
The REC promised that the Commission will conduct a credible election in the state.
